A Guide to Buying a New iPhone During Lockdown: Part 1

Life has taken a strange turn in the past few months. Things that we’ve come to take for granted are no longer possible during the coronavirus lockdown. For now, Apple Stores are closed. It was really nice to have that “Genius” at the Apple store sit down and answer all of our questions about the new Apple devices. We’ll be able to do that again, eventually, but we’re on our own for the next few months. You can still buy iPhones online at Apple.com. Apple also offers online and phone support. Here’s the first paragraph from Apple’s homepage:

“We’re open for you.
Our retail stores are closed, but you can buy our products here online and get fast, free delivery. If you need help finding the right product or have a question on your order, chat online with a Specialist or call 1-800-MY-APPLE. For service and support, visit support.apple.com.”

Apple has it pretty well covered. Still, you won’t get face-to-face support from Apple’s sales team, so we put together a guide to answer some of the basic questions you may have while buying your new phone. In Part 1, we’ll talk about the iPhones that are currently available. We’ll talk about features and pricing, and the cases that are available to protect your investment. In next week’s installment, we’ll walk you through the basic steps for setting up your new iPhone and the screen protectors that are available from BodyGuardz.

3. iPhone Xr - Starting at $599
Launched in November, 2017, Apple’s former flagship model has become its feature-packed value model.

• Water resistant to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes

4. iPhone SE Gen 2 - Starting at $399 (available 4/24/2020)
Apple’s new budget model replaces the aging iPhone 8 with its top-tier chip and popular 4.7inch screen—the smallest available.

• Single-camera system (Wide)
• Up to 13 hours of video playback
• Water resistant to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
